Wimbledon 2018 Day 4: Wins of Nadal, Halep, Del Potro, Kerber and Anderson, Defeats of Cilic and Muguruza

On July 5, the second rounds of men’s and women’s singles continued. Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep, Juan Martin Del Potro, Kevin Anderson and Angelique Kerber gained their second victories. Marin Cilic and Garbine Muguruza were defeated.

World #2, Rafael Nadal gained one more Wimbledon victory. He defeated Mikhail Kukushkin (Kazakhstan) with the score 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. The Spanish had to sweat a lot in order to get a victory over world #77 Kukushkin in a match that lasted for 2 hours and 23 minutes. Nadal, who recently won 2018 French Open, received a pair of time violation warnings during the game.

#1 among women, Simona Halep (Romania) earned a victory over Zheng Saisai (China): 7-5, 6-0.

Croatian Marin Cilic, who was seeded third, lost to Argentinian Guido Pella: 3-6, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-5.

Kevin Anderson (South Africa), seeded 8th, defeated Andreas Seppi (Italy): 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 6-3, 6-4.

Juan Martin Del Potro (Argentina) won in a game with Feliciano Lopez (Spain): 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

Alison Van Uyttvanck (Belgium) earned a victory over Garbine Muguruza (Spain), the winner of 2017 Wimbledon: 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.

American Claire Liu was defeated by Angelique Kerber (Germany): 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The match between Taylor Fritz (USA) and Alexander Zverev (Germany) was suspended after the score 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7/0) and the both players proceeded to the third round.
