Wimbledon 2018 Day 3: Roger Federer, Karolina Pliskova, Venus Williams Gain Victories While Caroline Wozniacki Loses

On July 4th, the second round of competitions in men’s and women’s singles started. Roger Federer, Karolina Pliskova, Venus Williams won their matches. Caroline Wozniacki lost and had to leave the race for the main prize.

The defending champion, Roger Federer, won his second match at 2018 Wimbledon. The Swiss gained a victory over Lukas Lacko (Slovakia) with the score 6-4, 6-4, 6-1 in a 90-minute match. In this game, Federer seemed to be less nervous than in the previous one. After gaining his 26th straight-sets victory, the Swiss player marked his second-longest streak of streaks won at SW19. In 2005/06, he had 34 straight sets victories.

Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic), seeded 7th, won in a game with Victoria Azarenka (Belarus): 6-3, 6-3.

9th seed, Venus Williams (USA), defeated Alexandra Dulgheru (Romania): 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.

Her sister, Serena Williams, also won her match against Viktoriya Tomova (Bulgaria): 6-1, 6-4.

Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark), who was seeded 2nd, lost to Ekaterina Makarova: 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.

The match between third-seed Marin Cilic (Croatia) and Guido Pella (Argentina) was suspended after the score 6-3, 6-1, 3-4. The both players proceed further.

Also, Andreas Seppi and Kevin Anderson, seeded 8th, suspended the match after the score 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 1-1. Seppi and Anderson continue their fight for the 2018 Wimbledon title.
