Wimbledon 2018 Day 8: Angelique Kerber and Juan Martin Del Potro Gain Victories

On July 10, the 8th day of competition in men’s and women’s singles, Angelique Kerber won her quarterfinal match and proceeded to the semifinals while Juan Martin Del Potro won the 4th round and will need to play in the quarterfinal with Rafael Nadal.

11th seed Angelique Kerber (Germany) played with Daria Kasatkina (Russia) and gained a victory with the score 6-3, 7-5. Being the highest seed left in the ladies’ singles, the German player needed 2 sets and 89 minutes to secure her place in the semifinal.

Kerber won the first set in comprehensive fashion, but the second set was much harder for the German. Kasatkina did her best to reach the 5-5 score, but, finally, Kerber’s experience won. In the semifinal, the German player will face Jelena Ostapenko.

5th seed Juan Martin Del Potro (Argentina) defeated Gilles Simon (France): 7-6 (7/1), 7-6 (7/5), 5-7, 7-6 (7/5). The match started on Monday and continued on Tuesday and lasted for 4 hours 24 minutes.

Del Potro reached his first Wimbledon quarterfinal since 2013. He will fight for the place in the last 4 with world #2 Rafael Nadal.
