Wimbledon 2018 Day 9: Nadal, Anderson, Isner Get to the Semifinals, Federer and Del Potro Are Out

Rafael Nadal, Kevin Anderson and John Isner managed to gain victories in the gentlemen’s singles quarterfinals at 2018 Wimbledon and proceeded to the semifinals. Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro had to leave the tournament.

In the quarterfinal, 8th seed Kevin Anderson (South Africa) managed to beat the defending Wimbledon champion and the world #1, Roger Federer (Switzerland). The match, which lasted for 4 hours and 14 minutes ended with the score 2-6, 6-7 (5/7), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11. Kevin Anderson became the first South African man to reach a Wimbledon semifinal since Kevin Curren in 1983.

World #2, Rafael Nadal (Spain), gained a victory over Juan Martin Del Potro (Argentina), who was seeded 5th. After 4 hours and 48 minutes of the fierce battle, the match ended with the score 7-5, 6-7 (7-9), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. It’s the first time since 2011 when Nadal will take part in the Wimbledon semifinal.

Another representative of Top 10, 9th seeded John Isner (USA) defeated 2016 Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic (Canada) with the score 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (9/7), 6-4, 6-3. Thus, the American, who won his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title in April, will get to his first Grand Slam semifinal.
