Wimbledon 2018 Day 7: Wins of Federer, Nadal, Kerber, Anderson, Isner, Defeat of Pliskova
On July 9, the names of the quarterfinalists in men’s and women’s singles at 2018 Wimbledon became known. Among them are top-seed Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Angelique Kerber, Kevin Anderson and John Isner. Another top seed, Karolina Pliskova, was eliminated.
Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic), who was seeded 7th, lost in straight sets in a match against world #20 Kiki Bertens (Netherlands). It means that no one from female’s top 8 will get to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The match, which lasted for 99 minutes, ended with the score 6-3, 7-6 (7/1).
The Dutch player, who must have been inspired by knocking out Venus Williams in the third round, seemed to have more energy around the court, though she made many mistakes. After losing in the first set, Pliskova was more vivid in the second set, but Bertens improved her game as well.
2017 Wimbledon champion, Roger Federer (Switzerland) continued his winning series after beating Adrian Mannarino (France): 6-0, 7-5, 6-4.
So did world #2 Rafael Nadal (Spain) after earning a victory over Jiri Vesely (Czech Republic): 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
Angelique Kerber (Germany) won in a match against Belinda Bencic (Switzerland): 6-3, 7-6 (7/5).
Kevin Anderson (South Africa) beat Gael Monfils (France): 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/2), 5-7, 7-6 (7/4).
John Isner (USA) defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece): 6-4, 7-6 (10/8), 7-6 (7/4).
The match between Juan Martin Del Potro (Argentina) and Gilles Simon (France) was suspended after the score 7-6 (7/1), 7-6 (7/5), 5-7.
