Rafael Nadal, Angelique Kerber, Juan Martin Del Potro managed to gain victories in the third round of men’s and women’s singles and will continue their battle for the 2018 Wimbledon title in the fourth round. Alexander Zverev and Simona Halep lost and had to leave the competition.

Ernests Gulbis (Latvia) beat Alexander Zverev (Germany), who was seeded 4th, in a very tense game, which lasted for 3 hours and 20 minutes. The Latvian kicked off Zverev from the Wimbledon with the score 7-6 (7/2), 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.

Ernests Gulbis, who is #138 in the world, became the first qualifier to reach the round of 16 at the All England Club since 2012. His slices and chips, lobs and various drop shots received no answer from Zverev and led to the sensational victory. It turned out that the German tennis player had almost no energy before the game after suffering from a stomach bug.

Rafael Nadal (Spain), seeded 2nd, gained a victory over Alex de Minaur (Australia): 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

Angelique Kerber (Germany), who was seeded 11th, defeated Naomi Osaka (Japan): 6-2, 6-4.

The first-seed, Simona Halep (Romania) was beaten by Hsieh Su-wei (Taiwan): 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Juan Martin Del Potro (Argentina) won in a match against Benoit Paire (France): 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3.
