Wimbledon 2018 Day 10: Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams Get to the Final
In ladies’ singles semifinals, which were held on July 12, Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams managed to gain victories. It means that these two players will meet in the final of 2018 Wimbledon, in a rematch of the 2016 final, won by Williams.
11th seed Angelique Kerber (Germany) defeated Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) on her way to the second Wimbledon final in her career. In a two-set game, which lasted 67 minutes, the German showed her dominance with the score 6-3, 6-3.
Kerber was chasing the ball to all corners of the court and gave very little away, showing her obduracy. But Ostapenko wasn’t an easy rival with her power and freedom off both wings as well as occasional deft drop shot, which made the German nervous.
Serena Williams (USA), who was seeded 25th, beat Julia Goerges (Germany) in the semifinal match. The American won in two sets, which lasted 70 minutes, with the score 6-2, 6-4. Being full of power and conviction, she struggled to the final in her well-known manner and proved that she is already in great conditions.
Thus, Williams secured the place in her 10th Wimbledon final in just the 14th game after return to tennis and 10 months after giving birth to her child. Serena, who is #181 in the world now, will definitely improve her rankings and will reach, at least, top 30.
