German tennis player, Angelique Kerber, defeated Serena Williams in the final of Wimbledon ladies’ singles event. The two-set match lasted for 65 minutes and ended with the score 6-3, 6-3. This victory was rather unexpected as Serena Williams was the favorite. However, Angelique did her best, playing cleanly, covering the court well, picking her spots for big shots and committing only 5 mistakes against Serena’s 24.

Kerber, who was seeded 11th, won her first Wimbledon title and became the first German woman since Steffi Graf in 1996 to triumph at the All England Club. It’s the third Grand Slam title for the player as she has already won the titles at Australian Open and US Open.
