Tobias Wendl, who acts as a front, was born on June 16, 1987, in Aachen, Germany. He started to take part in competitions in 1993. In 2005, he became a part of the German national team. Besides doing sports, Wendl is also a Master Sergeant in the German Army.

Tobias Arlt, a backdriver, was born on June 2, 1987, in Berchtesgaden, West Germany. He started to luge when he was 4 years old. In 1991, he started to take part in competitions. In 2006, he made the national debut. Arlt is also a police officer in the German Federal Police.

The duo of Wendl and Arlt is often called as “The Bayern-Express” as well as “The Two Tobis”. The first success came to the athletes in 2008, when they became silver medalists of the 2008 FIL World Luge Championships in Oberhof, Germany. At 2010 FIL European Luge Championships in Sigulda, the athletes earned silver medals in men’s doubles as well as bronze medals in team events.

In 2013, Two Tobis claimed gold medals at the FIL World Luge Championships in Whistler, Canada. They retained the title of the World Champions in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, they earned silver medals at the World Championships.

Also, the athletes compete at the Luge World Cup. In 2010/11, they became gold medalists of the competition. After being second in 2011/12, the duo returned to the World Cup title in 2012/13 season and defended it in 2013/14.

In 2014/15, Wendl and Arlt won silver medals at the World Cup. In 2015/16 season, they became gold medalists for the fourth time. They ended the seasons 2016/17 and 2017/18 on the second place.

Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt debuted at the Winter Olympics in 2014 Sochi. They claimed gold medals in men’s doubles with the total time of 1:38.933. They also won gold medals in team event together with Natalie Geisenberger and Felix Loch.

At 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, the lugers defended their titles. They won the men’s doubles, finishing in 1:31.697, as well as the team event one more time. Thus, the athletes are 4-time Olympic champions.
