The tendency of Dutch athletes to win gold in speed skating at 2018 Olympic Games was broken by Canadian athlete, Ted-Jan Bloemen. He became a gold medalist in 10,000m race, finishing in 12 minutes 39.77 seconds. However, despite the fact that he represents Canada, Ted was born in Netherlands and so, both countries can be proud of him. At these Olympics, the athlete has already won silver in 5000m.

Though, the podium in this discipline still includes one Dutch athlete. Jorrit Bergsma, who was a gold medalist in this discipline at 2014 Winter Olympics, earned a silver medal after finishing the race in 12 minutes 41.98 seconds. Italian speed skater, Nicola Tumolero, finished in 12 minutes 54.32 seconds and became a bronze medalist.
