How Michela Moioli Became an Olympic Champion?

Michela Moioli became a real star of 2018 Winter Olympics and a national hero for the Italian fans after she claimed gold in snowboard cross. Though the path to this victory wasn’t an easy one, the athlete managed to overcome all the obstacles on her way to the dream. World Championships and Other International Competitions

Michela Moioli was born on July 17, 1995, in Alzano Lombardo, Italy. She started to compete internationally in 2011 at the FIS Junior World Championships. In 2012 and 2013, the athlete became a bronze medalist.

She debuted at the senior World Snowboard Championships in 2013 and finished on the 5th place. In 2015, she became a bronze medalist and defended this title in 2017 Sierra Nevada.

Moioli also showed good results at Europa Cup. She gained 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals at its events.

Michela Moioli debuted at the World Cup in 2012 Telluride, where she finished 14th. She gained her first victory in Sochi in February 2013. That season, she also won a silver medal in Arosa and ended the season on the third overall place.

In 2014, the athlete didn’t compete in the majority of events because of an injury, which she got at 2014 Sochi Olympics. However, the following season, Michela managed to become an overall bronze medalist again, winning the race in Veysonnaz.

2015/16 season turned out to be better for the athlete. She claimed gold in Veysonnaz and got 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. As a result, she won her first overall World Cup. In 2016/17, Moioli was an overall silver medalist after winning races in Feldberg and La Molina as well as 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.

However, in 2017/18 season, the snowboarder returned to the overall World Cup title. She won the events in Montafon, Cervinia, Feldberg and Veysonnaz as well as earned 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Michela took part in 2014 Winter Olympics and was in top 10 after finishing the race on the 6th place. By 2018 PyeongChang, the athlete improved her skills and gained her first Olympic gold medal in snowboard cross.

After the race, the snowboarder shared her happiness: “I have no words. It is the best day of my life – really. No words, I started to cry when I crossed the finish line and I cry again maybe. I'm really happy”.

She also added: “I don't know, I started crying and I thought, 'Oh my god, I made it.' All the stress went away and this is my moment, I'm so happy, so proud of my work and I can't wait to enjoy this moment”.

Undoubtedly, Michela Moioli is a very ambitious young athlete, who always tries to show her best no matter what competition she takes part in. It’s very interesting to watch her performances and we hope that we will witness her other great achievements.
