How Arnd Peiffer Became Such a Great Biathlete?

At the moment, Arnd Peiffer is one of the best German biathletes. Though he has won many medals and awards, he became a real star at 2018 Winter Olympics, where he claimed a gold medal in sprint. Clearly, the athlete’s path to success wasn’t an easy one, but he managed to overcome all the obstacles on his way to success. That’s why, we’d like to share some information about Arnd’s life and career.

Arnd Peiffer was born on March 18, 1987, in Wolfenbuttel, West Germany. He started to train in biathlon at the age of 10. Besides doing sports, Arns also studies a lot. He graduated from the police school and currently holds the title of chief of police. He also studied at the Technical University of Clausthal as an engineer-economist.

At the 2008 Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding, he won 2 bronze medals in sprint and relay. In 2009-11, Peiffer got Sportsman of the Year in Lower Saxony. And in 2012 and 2014, he was named Sportsman of the Year in the LK Goslar. Also, in 2010 and 2011, the athlete was awarded with Golden Ski of the DSV.

World Championships

Arnd Peiffer took medals at all World Championships he participated in. In 2009, he made a debut at the World Championships and won 2 bronze medals in relay and mixed relay. The following year in Khanty-Mansiysk, he earned his first gold medal in mixed relay. The first individual gold was won by the biathlete in 2011 in sprint along with a silver medal in mixed relay.

Also, Peiffer gained bronze medals in relay and mixed relay at 2012 and 2013 World Championships. In 2015, he was a gold medalist in relay and in 2017, he was a gold medalist in mixed relay. At 2016 World Championships, he got silver medals in relay and mixed relay.

World Cup

The biathlete debuted at the World Cup in 2008/09 season. The same season, he gained his first victory in 10 km sprint in Khanty-Mansiysk. At the season standing, Arnd was once on the second place and 4 times on the second. He was second in sprint in 2013/14. The season gold medals include: mass start in 2009/2010, sprint in 2010/11, pursuit in 2011/2012 and 2016/17.

In total, Peiffer won the individual World Cup races 7 times. He won 10 km sprint in 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2014/15 seasons. Also, the athlete won 12.5 km pursuit in 2011/12 and 2016/17.

Winter Olympic Games

Arnd Peiffer debuted at the Olympic Games in 2010 Vancouver. He didn’t gain any medals and finished 37th in sprint and pursuit, 17th in mass start and 5th in relay. 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were more successful. The athlete became a silver medalist in relay. In other events, he finished 34th in sprint, 19th in pursuit and 18th in mass start.

2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang brought Arnd his first Olympic gold in sprint as well as a bronze medal in relay. He also showed better results in other events in comparison with 2010 and 2014 Olympics. The biathlete finished 21st in individual, 8th in pursuit, 13th in mass start and 4th in mixed relay.

In a nutshell, Arnd Peiffer is a really great athlete, who won a great number of medals at the most prestigious competitions in the world, including Olympic Games, World Cup and World Championships. He is a very good example to follow for young athletes.
