Figure Skating: Yuzuru Hanyu Wins in Men’s Singles

After being ranked first in short program, Yuzuru Hanyu (Japan) was the main candidate for the Olympic gold in men’s singles and he managed to meet hopes of his fans. The athlete was on the second place after presenting his freestyle program. In total, Hanyu earned 317.85 points and became a gold medalist. It’s the second Olympic gold for the athlete as he was a gold medalist of 2014 Winter Olympics. By the way, Yuzuru won the 1000th gold medal of the Winter Olympic Games.

Yuzuru Hanyu commented his victory: “I have no words right now. I am overwhelmed. I am just happy with my performance and my hard training. Getting to this place was really tough. Because I had time off from skating, I was able to do a lot of planning and thinking about strategy”.

Shoma Uno, another figure skater from Japan, earned a silver medal by getting 306.90 points. Javier Fernandez, a Spanish athlete, gained a bronze medal with his 305.24 points.
