Figure Skating: Alina Zagitova Claims Gold in Women’s Singles

Alina Zagitova, an Olympic Athlete from Russia, became an Olympic champion in women’s singles. She gained 82.92 points and set a new world record.

15 year old Zagitova becomes the second-youngest women’s skater to win Olympic gold after Tara Lipinski in 1998, who was about a month younger than Zagitova.

Alina still can’t believe in her success: “I won. Honestly, my hands are shaking, because I haven't understood yet that I am an Olympic champion”.

The silver was won by another Olympic Athlete from Russia, Evgenia Medvedeva, who earned 81.61 points. The athlete also gained silver in team event. Kaetlyn Osmond from Canada became a bronze medalist, gaining 78.87 points. It’s the third Olympic medal for the figure skater as she won silver in 2014 and gold in 2018 in team events.
