Eric Frenzel is one of the best German Nordic Combined skiers at the moment. He is 5-time World Champion, 5-time World Cup winner and 3-time Olympic Champion. For us, it was very interesting to find out more about this athlete and now, we are going to share the information with you.

Career Beginnings and World Championships Success

Eric Frenzel was born on November 21, 1988, in Annaberg-Buchholz, Saxony, East Germany. The athlete was introduced to Nordic Combined by his father, who was his coach in his first training group. Eric started to ski at the age of 2 and made his first jumps, being 6 years old.

In 2007, Frenzel won gold and silver medals at the Junior World Ski Championships in Tarvisio. The same year, he debuted at the senior World Championships, but didn’t gain any medals. At 2009 World Ski Championships, the athlete rose to his first podium, winning silver in team event. And in 2011, he became the World Champion in individual normal hill/10km, earning also bronze in individual large hill/10km as well as silver in normal and large hill team events.

In 2013, Eric Frenzel claimed gold in large hill/10 km and took bronze in large hill team event. At 2015 World Championships, he won gold and silver medals in team events. And in 2017, the athlete won individual silver in normal hill/10 km in addition to 2 gold medals in team events.

Moreover, Frenzel took part in Grand Prix competitions. He earned 8 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals at them.

Frenzel debuted at the 2007 World Cup in Lago di Tesero, where he finished 44th in individual and 9th in team events. In 2008 Klingenthal, he gained his first victory in large hill mass start. The athlete finished his first World Cup season at the 7th place.

Being 11th in 2008/09, 4th in 2009/10 and 2010/11, 6th in 2011/12, the Nordic Combined skier won his first overall World Cup title in 2012/13. Moreover, he managed to retain it for 4 more seasons till 2017/18, when he ended the season on the 8th place.

In total, Eric won 43 World Cup individual and 9 team events. He rose to the podium 94 times.

Eric Frenzel debuted at the Winter Olympic Games in 2010 Vancouver. He showed the best individual result by finishing 10th in normal hill. Also, he became a bronze medalist in team relay. At 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the athlete won 2 medals, his first individual gold in normal hill and a silver medal in team relay.

At the moment, 2018 PyeongChang Olympics were the most successful for the athlete. He won medals in all events, he took part in. Eric defended his title in normal hill and became a bronze medalist in large hill. Also, he was a gold medalist of team relay.
