Career Highlights of Maren Lundby, a Ski Jumper from Norway

In the recent years, Maren Lundby is always in the lists of the best female ski jumpers. Though she showed rather moderate results at the start of her career, she has shown a great progress lately. Let’s see the path of the athlete to a gold medal at 2018 PyeongChang.

Maren Lundby was born on September 7, 1994, in Gjoevik, Norway. She represents the Kolbukameratene IL ski club. She started the international career at 2007 Continental Cup and finished 56th. But in 2015, the athlete managed to win gold and silver medals at this competition.

Maren Lundby debuted at the World Cup in 2011/12 season. She finished on the 26th overall place with the best result of the 13th place in Hinzenbach. In 2012/13 season, she rose to the 23rd overall position, winning the team event in Lillehammer. Her best individual result was the 10th place in Schonach-Schonwald.

In 2013/14 season, the athlete made a breakthrough and reached the overall 7th position. She won a bronze medal in team event in Lillehammer, was 2 times 4th in Zao and won her first individual medal, a silver one, in Rasnov. In 2014/15, Maren won a bronze medal in Rasnov and finished 14th overall.

In 2015/16 season, the ski jumper finished the season on the 6th place after gaining a silver medal in Oslo and bronze medals in Lillehammer, Oberstdorf, Hinzenbach. Lundby rose to her first overall podium in 2016/17 season, finishing on the third place. That season, she became a gold medalist in Nizhny Tagil, Sapporo, Rasnov and Ljubno, a silver medalist in Rasnov and a bronze medalist in Sapporo, Zao, Hinzenbach, PyeongChang and Oslo.

Finally, Maren became an overall World Cup winner in 2017/18 season. She earned 9 gold medals in Lillehammer, Hinterzarten, Sapporo, Zao, Ljubno, Rasnov and Oslo as well as 4 silver medals in Lillehammer, Ljubno and Rasnov.

World Championships and Other International Competitions

In 2008, Lundby competed at the Junior World Championships and finished on the 30th place. Winning no medals in 2009-2013, the athlete finally rose to the podium, winning bronze in normal hill.

In 2009, the ski jumper debuted at the senior World Championships in Liberec and finished 22nd. In 2011, she finished the competitions on the 11th place. At 2013 World Championships, Maren finished 25th in individual and 4th in team events. In 2015, she improved her results by being on 15th and 2nd place in the normal hill individual and team. In 2017 Lahti, the athlete took the 4th individual and 5th team place.

In addition, Maren Lundby took part in Grand Prix competitions. In 2015, she won a silver medal as well as in 2016. In 2017, she was a silver and 2-time bronze medalist of the Grand Prix events.

2018 Winter Olympics

Maren made an Olympic debut at 2014 Sochi. She finished 8th in normal hill. In 2018 PyeongChang, the ski jumper was much more successful and claimed a gold medal. She showed the best results in both jumps by jumping for 105.5 and 110.0 meters and gaining 254.6 points.
