Career Highlights of Anastasiya Kuzmina, 3-Time Olympic Gold Medalist

Anastasiya Kuzmina, who is at the moment one of the best female biathletes in the world, proved her greatness at 2018 Winter Olympics by earning 3 medals, including 1 gold. But that Olympic success wasn’t the first one in the athlete’s career as she already won 2010 and 2014 Olympic Games. Moreover, she shows good results at other competitions.

Anastasiya Kuzmina was born on August 28, 1984, in Tyumen, Russia. However, since 2008, she represents Slovakia internationally. Let’s have a closer look at the career achievements of the biathlete.

World Championships

Competing for Russia, Kuzmina won 2 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals at the Junior World Championships. After becoming a Slovakian citizen, the athlete participated in 2009 World Championships and won a silver medal in mass start. She also had 2 top 10 finishes after she completed sprint 7th and mixed relay 10th. In 2010, she was called “Best athlete of Slovakia”

At 2011 World Championships, the biathlete became a bronze medalist in sprint with 4 more good results, being 9th in individual, 6th in pursuit, 10th in mass start and 7th in relay. In the later competitions, Kuzmina didn’t gain any medals, but she had 10 top 10 finishes.

World Cup

For the first time, Kuzmina competed at the World Cup in 2005/06 season, representing Russia. But she didn’t win any race that season as well as the following one. Since 2008/09 season, the biathlete competes for Slovakia. In 2011, she won her first World Cup event, sprint in Hochfilzen.

To the date, 2017/18 season was the best for the athlete. She became an overall silver medalist, winning the titles in sprint and pursuit. In total, Anastasiya won 10 individual World Cup races.

Olympic Games

Anastasiya Kuzmina made an Olympic debut in 2010 Vancouver. She claimed gold in sprint, finishing in 19:55.6. Also, she became a silver medalist in pursuit and finished 8th in mass start. At 2014 Sochi Olympics, she defended her title in sprint. She was also good at pursuit and mixed relay, finishing 6th and 5th correspondingly.

At the moment, 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang are the most successful in Anastasiya’s career. Though she didn’t won the sprint title for the third time, she claimed gold in mass start as well as won silver medals in individual and pursuit. Moreover, she finished 5th in relay.

By the way, Anastasiya isn’t the only athlete in family. Her parents were masters of sports in ski races and biathlon. Her brother is Anton Shipulin, a Russian biathlete. Moreover, her husband also has to do with winter sports. Daniel Kuzmin is an Israeli cross-country skier, who also trains his wife.

All in all, Anastasiya Kuzmina is a very good example to follow for young biathletes. She always fights to the finish and is, undoubtedly, very talented. She definitely deserves to be called one of the best athletes in the world.
