On June 15, the second day of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, three matches were played. Egypt played against Uruguay, Morocco played against Iran and, in the final match of the day, Portugal and Spain met.
The first match of the day between Egypt and Uruguay ended up with the victory of the latter with the score 0:1. Defender Jose Gimenez scored the goal at the 89th minute after an assist from Carlos Sanchez. The star forwards of the Uruguayan team, Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, missed good chances. Mohamed El Shenawy, a goalkeeper of the Egyptian team, was called the Man of the Match after he made a couple of key saves in the game.
In the second match, between Morocco and Iran, the latter won with the 0:1 score. Like in the previous match, the decisive goal was scored in the end of the match. In the additional time, on the 95th minute, Morrocan forward Aziz Bouhaddouz headed into his own net and brought the victory to the opponents. Amine Harit from Morocco was chosen as Man of the Match. By the way, it’s the first World Cup match victory of Iran since 1998.
The match between Portugal and Spain was the most expected game of the day. It was very hard to predict the winner as the both teams are among the strongest squads in the world. As a result, the game was very spectacular and finished with a draw 3:3.
The first goal was scored by the Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. On the 3rd minute, Spanish defender, Nacho made a foul against Ronaldo in the penalty area. As a result, the Portuguese forward converted the penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner and opened the score on the 4th minute.
On the 24th minute, the Spaniards answered with a goal by Diego Costa. By the end of the first period, on the 44th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second goal, being assisted by Gonzalo Guedes.
In the second period, the score turned to 2:2 on the 55th minute after one more goal from Diego Costa, assisted by Sergio Busquets. On the 58th minute, Nacho scored the third goal of the Spanish team. The final goal in the game was scored by Cristiano Ronaldo on the 88th minute.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo, the author of the first hat trick at the 2018 World Cup, was called Man of the Match.
