2018 FIFA World Cup: Uruguay, Russia, Portugal and Spain Got to the Round of 16

The first teams have already secured their places in the Round of 16. After the matches, which took place on June 25, Uruguay, Russia, Portugal and Spain proceeded to the knockout phase. It’s already known that Uruguay will play with Portugal and Spain with Russia. But let’s have a closer look at the matches played: Uruguay and Saudi Arabia gained victories while matches Spain-Morocco and Iran-Portugal ended with a draw.

Saudi Arabia earned a victory over Egypt with the score 2:1. On the 22nd minute, Mohamed Salah (Egypt) opened the score after an assist from Abdallah El Said. In the additional time of the first period, on the 45+6 minute, Saudi Arabia evened the score after a penalty, converted by Salman Al Faraj. The decisive goal was scored in the additional time, 90+5 minute. Salem Al Dawsari scored a goal, assisted by Abdullah Otayf.

Mohamed Salah was voted as Man of the Match after striking Egypt’s quickest goal in World Cup history. The yellow cards were shown to Ali Gabr and Ahmed Fathy.

The match between Uruguay and Russia ended with the score 3:0. Luis Suarez opened the score on the 10th minute. On the 23rd minute, Denis Cheryshev scored a goal into his own goalkeeper’s net. The final goal was scored by Edinson Cavani on the 90th minute.

Luis Suarez was called Man of the Match. Igor Smolnikov was given a red card after 2 fouls. Yuri Gazinskiy and Rodrigo Bentancur were shown yellow cards.

Iran and Portugal had a draw, 1:1. Ricardo Quaresma scored the first goal on the 45th minute after an assist from Adrien Silva. On the 93rd minute, Karim Ansarifard converted the penalty and helped his team to end the match without losing it.

Ricardo Quaresma was voted as Man of the Match after converting trivela, a curling shot with the outside of the boot. Raphael Guerreiro, Ehsan Haji Safi, Sardar Azmoun, Ricardo Quaresma, Cristiano Ronaldo and Cedric Soares received yellow cards.

The match between Spain and Morocco also ended with a draw, 2:2. On the 14th minute, Morocco opened the score after a goal of Khalid Boutaib. Spain equaled the score on the 19th minute. Isco scored a goal after an assist from Andres Iniesta. On the 81st minute, Youssef En-Nesyri scored the second goal of Morocco. The match outcome was decided on the 90+1 minute, when Iago Aspas turned the score to 2:2, assisted by Daniel Carvajal.

Isco, a midfielder for Real Madrid, was called Man of the Match. Karim El Ahmadi, Nordin Amrabat, Manuel da Costa, Moubarak Boussoufa, Munir Mohamedi and Achraf Hakimi were shown yellow cards.
