2018 FIFA World Cup: Sweden and England Will Play in the Quarterfinals

On July 3, the last participants of the 2018 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals became known. Sweden and England gained victories and will fight for the place in the semifinals on July 7.

Sweden gained a minimal victory over Switzerland with the score 1:0. Sweden scored a goal on the 66th minute. Emil Forsberg made a right footed shot to the top left corner, assisted by Ola Toivonen. It’s the first time in almost a quarter of a century that Sweden got to the ¼ finals at the World Cup.

Midfielder Emil Forsberg, who scored the only goal in the game, was voted as Man of the Match. Michael Lang (Switzerland) received a red card. The yellow cards were shown to Mikael Lustig, Valon Behrami and Granit Xhaka.

The match between Colombia and England ended with a draw, 1:1. The first goal was scored by England. Harry Kane converted the penalty on the 57th minute. In the additional time, on 90+3 minute, Yerry Mina evened the score after an assist from Juan Cuadrado and gave his team a chance to fight for the place in the quarterfinals in extra time. But the score didn’t change.

When Colombia was very close from getting to the quarterfinals, they were beaten by England in a series of penalty with the score 3:4. Colombians Radamel Falcao, Juan Cuadrado, Luis Muriel and English Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier converted the penalties. The penalties from Jordan Henderson, Carlos Bacca were saved while Mateus Uribe hit the bar.

Harry Kane, who has already scored 6 goals at the 2018 World Cup, was called a Man of the Match. Wilmar Barrios, Santiago Arias, Carlos Sanchez, Jordan Henderson, Radamel Falcao, Carlos Bacca, Jesse Lingard and Juan Cuadrado were shown yellow cards.
