2018 FIFA World Cup: After Beating Argentina and Portugal, France and Uruguay Will Meet in the Quarterfinals

The first matches of the Round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup took place on June 30. As a result, France and Uruguay won and sent the greatest players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and their teams home.

In an extremely spectacular game, France gained a victory over Argentina with the score 4:3. On the 13th minute, Antoine Griezmann opened the score by converting the penalty. Argentina answered on the 41st minute by a goal from Angel Di Maria, assisted by Ever Banega.

On the 48th minute, Gabriel Mercado made Argentina lead after an assist from Lionel Messi. But the French evened the score on the 57th minute. Benjamin Pavard scored, assisted by Lucas Hernandez. On the 64th minute, Kylian Mbappe turned the score to 3:2. And on the 68th minute, Mbappe made a double, this time after an assist of Olivier Giroud. On 90+3 minute, Sergio Aguero scored the third goal of Argentina, assisted by Messi, but it was too late and his team lost.

Kylian Mbappe was voted as Man of the Match for scoring 2 goals and earning a penalty for his team. The 19 year old PSG star seemed to be too hard for the Argentinian defenders to cope with. Marcos Rojo, Nicolas Tagliafico, Javier Mascherano, Ever Banega, Blaise Matuidi, Benjamin Pavard, Nicolas Otamendi and Olivier Giroud got yellow cards.

Uruguay won in the game against Portugal, 2016 European Champions, with the score 2:1. Uruguay opened the score on the 7th minute. Edinson Cavani marked a goal after an assist from Luis Suarez. On the 55th minute, Portugal’s defender, Pepe, evened the score after an assist of Raphael Guerreiro. And the final point in the match was set on the 62nd minute, after Cavani made a double, assisted by Rodrigo Bentancur.

Edinson Cavani was called Man of the Match. The PSG forward scored the both goals and helped his team to win. He only yellow card was shown to Cristiano Ronaldo.
